Editor,
This Mother's Day weekend, a new light was lit in Collingwood.
For the first time since the genocide began 19 months ago, a local rally for Palestine was held in Collingwood — and it was beautiful.
Some folks who gathered had been travelling all the way from Toronto to raise their voices. Others were stepping into action for the very first time. But what everyone shared was a feeling of connection, energy, and determination.
As someone who's been lucky enough to stand each week with our Owen Sound and Grey Bruce community, I was reminded just how powerful it is to gather; to be seen; to speak out; and to know we're not alone.
As the man-made famine intensifies throughout the Gaza Strip, we cannot turn away from the suffering of Palestinians, who have not been able to access fresh food or water for over 60 days due to Israel's blockade. Canada is complicit every day it does not take action to hold Israel accountable and stop this genocide. We must insist Canada at least enact a two-way arms embargo with Israel, until that country stops its current offensive and alleged war crimes.
So if you've been looking for a way to show up, you're invited every Saturday from 10am to 11am in Owen Sound on the Gitche-name-wiikwedong bridge, and now every Saturday from 10am to 11am outside the Town Hall in Collingwood too.
Thank you to the organizers in Collingwood — you're building something vital. You're making space for others to join in, speak up, and find strength in each other. Together, our voices carry.

Owen Sound
