The Town of Saugeen Shores has increased its annual contribution to the Municipal Housing Allowance Program administered by Bruce County.

As part of the 2025 Business Plan, Saugeen Shores Council approved an increase in funding to $225,000 annually, from its previous $150,000 annual contribution. The increase will extend through 2033.

This follows Saugeen Shores doubling their contribution in 2024, from $75,000 to $150,000 as well as an increase in 2023.

"The latest increase further strengthens supports for residents in need," read a recent media release from the Town, adding that the increased funding will extend the program's support from 20 to 30 households funded by Saugeen Shores. Five additional households will benefit from County funding.

Mayor Luke Charbonneau said they were thrilled to partner be partners in the County's Housing Allowance Program "as part of our ongoing commitment to addressing the housing needs of our growing community."

In addition to the Housing Allowance Subsidy, The 10th Concession Memorandum of Understanding, a partnership between Saugeen Shores, Wilson Developments and Habitat for Humanity, will add a new entry-level townhouse development on Town land.

A Request for Proposals for affordable housing development on Bluewater lands is also expected by the end of June.

More information on these projects is available in the Saugeen Shores 2025 Business Plan (under Development Services Major Initiatives, page 54 and Planning & Development Division Highlights, page 62.)
