This is Emergency Preparedness Week and Bruce County is inviting residents to stay safe, learn about local risks, and ensure they are prepared when emergencies strike.

In a recent media release, Bruce County's Emergency Management Coordinator, Ray Lux, sais that being prepared is everyone's responsibility. "Emergency Preparedness Week gives us all a chance to learn what we need to know and do to protect ourselves, our families and our communities when faced with an emergency situation," said Lux.

In Bruce County each municipality has identified which hazards pose the greatest risk for them and understanding potential emergencies helps communities prepare.

The top four hazards identified in the County are:
Tornados
Severe winter weather
Cyber attacks
Power outages

"Understanding these risks allows residents to take appropriate steps to prepare themselves and their families for these specific emergency situations," read the release.

Lux said the County is inviting everyone to explore emergency preparedness by creating their own emergency plan.

"These simple steps can make a significant difference in how well individuals and families navigate through challenging circumstances," said Lux.

These steps include:

Creating a family emergency plan including meeting locations and communication strategies
Prepare an emergency kit with essential supplies to last at least 72 hours
Stay informed about potential risks in your area

Saugeen Shores, which features a lakefront, a large river, one of the area's major road links and proximity to a nuclear facility, has identified the following community risks:

Critical infrastructure failures
