The second annual Saugeen Shores Kin Club ‘Touch a Truck’ event took place on Saturday, August 22 at the Port Elgin Beach between 11am and 3pm.

The event included a wide variety of vehicles from construction vehicles to EMS vehicles to specialty vehicles. A barbecue and inflatables were all part of the event.

Christine Cooper of the Saugeen Shores Kin Club said, “We are already signed up to do next year's [Touch a Truck event] so we're excited because we had a few trucks that couldn't make it this year but they've said 'We're in' for next year. Last year we had 19 or 20 trucks. This year we had 30 signed up.” While 200 to 300 approximate families attended last year's event, this year they were counting individual people and the number visiting the event stood at approximately 700.

Saugeen Shores Kin Club formed in May 2014, their predecessor a Port Elgin club from approximately 20 years ago. “We have 15 members right now and always welcome new ones,” said Cooper.

The funds raised from the event were going to support The Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre in Southampton. “We've made a $5,000 pledge to their World War 1 exhibit. We've made our first contribution so this will hopefully bring us up to speed on our contribution so that we can continue to help that and continue helping out in the community.”

In addition Kin Canada donates every year to Cystic Fibrosis research. “As people need we've donated to athletes and teams and schools,” she added.

The Kin Club of Saugeen Shores' next event will be their barbecue as part of the FireFit Championships on September 4, 5 and 6 at the North Harbour parking lot, Port Elgin.BBQBruce PowerCrowdsJacobPolice
