Calling all aspiring young artists

graphic fullWhat does Bruce County mean to you? Bruce County students in grades 6 through 8 are encouraged to answer that question through artistic impression.

The Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre (BCM&CC), in conjunction with the Southampton Art School, will be showcasing ‘My Bruce County’, a juried art show at the Museum May 19 through Labour Day. All pieces in this unique exhibition will be selected by a panel of judges, and displayed in the Bruce Gallery for a period of three months. Winning entries will be unveiled at a special ceremony during the evening of May 19.

“There are so many talented young artists throughout the County and this exhibition gives them an opportunity to present their work in a gallery setting. We are so pleased to be partnering with the Southampton Art School in bringing this show to the public,” said BCM&CC Director, Cathy McGirr.

“Holding youth art classes every summer and working one on one with G.C. Huston Public School students, gives us the opportunity to see the gifts of the children in our community. We are very happy to partner with the Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre for this exhibition, to showcase the talents and creativity of our local and surrounding area youth”, said Southampton Art School Director, Darlene McConnachie.

This juried art show is open to students in grades 6, 7 or 8 attending school in Bruce County. All two dimensional artworks are welcome. Submissions must be ready to hang. Students may submit two pieces of artwork, at a maximum size of 24 by 24 inches each.

Each piece must have this label attached to the back, including a brief description of the work and inspiration behind it. Labels can also be picked up at the Museum during regular business hours.

All entries must be dropped off at the BCM&CC no later than May 3, the jurying of the art will take place on May 4 by Southampton Art School Director, Darlene McConnachie, BCM&CC Director, Cathy McGirr, and two local artists.

All entrants will be contacted May 6, with the pick-up of declined artwork taking place May 7-8.

Art pieces to be displayed in the show will be on display May 19 through September 5, with pick-up to take place September 6.Child Art
