The awards presentation for the eighth annual Arts and Crafts Juried Show hosted by The Owen Sound Artists’ Co-op took place Sunday, April 10, in their new gallery space at 942 2nd Avenue West, Owen Sound.

Saugeen District Secondary School (SDSS) was well represented with artwork and three students were recognized for their achievements. First place in the three-dimensional category was awarded to Nicole Hall for her interpretation of artwork in the style of the Indigenous artist, Norval Morriseau. Judges awarded Honourable Mentions to Jocelyn Boville for “Room with a View” and Sukhmani Basra for her 3D work “O’keeffe Wonders”.

The Owen Sound Artists’ Co-op has fostered the artistic development of high school art students in Bluewater for many years, hosting this annual show as well as organizing hands on workshops with local artists and craftspeople.

From artistscoop.ca, “This exhibition features 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional art from senior students in our Grey Bruce secondary schools. This year over 70 students have submitted creative works of art... Often, the arts programs are not as visible in the community, and this show never fails to highlight the incredible talent being fostered in our schools.”

Awards were contributed by Co-op members, Ontario Secondary Schools Teachers Federation, Retired Teachers of Ontario, and local businesses.

The show can be viewed until April 28.
