New champ crowned at Wismer's second annual Wing Eating Contest

A new champ was crowned during the Wismer House’s second annual Chicken Wing Eating Contest, May 4, with Steve “Uncle Bumpy” Lodge of Port Elgin taking the win, after tranquilly eating 48 wings. Lodge, who was ready for the sauce, wore a Ribfest t-shirt and credited eating a light lunch, and hailing from Prince Edward Island as his keys to success.

Second and third place contestants Andrew “No Days Off” Zopf and Justin Ribey ate a respectable 46 and 43 wings during the 30 minute timed event that saw eight competitors eat their way through the Wismer Houses’ wing supply.

Last year’s winner Rick Thibodeau “The Bearded Builder” of Owen Sound still holds the record for most wings eaten after demolishing 54 wings in 2017.

Finals

With four competitors disqualifying themselves from the competition the final minutes was a head to head contest between Andrew Zopf and Steve Lodge. In the end Lodge ate 48 wings, while Zopf scarfed down 46 wings.

Steve

Wismer House staff member Naomi Da Silva presented the winning prize-pack and plaque to Steve “Uncle Bumpy” Lodge who dominated 48 wings in 30 minutes.
