Lawn Bowling is an outdoor, low impact, low cost, all ages social activity and Saugeen Shores Lawn Bowling Club (SSLBC) has teamed up with Three Sheets Brewing for Social Bowl and Brews.

The evenings which have been happening all summer long, get underway at 6pm and run until 9:30pm each Friday, and will continue through to the end of August, 2023.

The cost is $5 for members and $10 for non members.

The club has also been the recipient of the New Horizons for Seniors grant from the federal government. "We received a Horizon grant to promote Lawn Bowling - Seniors in Motion," said Jean Morrison in an email to Saugeen Shores Hub.

The grant gave the club $60,000 over three years, enabling them to create a website, purchase some much needed equipment, as well as advertising and signage.

The club also implemented a four week learn-to-bowl program in 2021, a program "taught by seniors for seniors," read a release from SSLBC.

The club attracted over 100 participants and gained over 25 new full time members. "However, in light of the growth of the community, this is still a small portion of the senior population," read the release.

SSLBC has also partnered with Saugeen First Nation in hopes of attracting Indigenous seniors and added that the program aims to break down barriers, promote inclusion and social interaction, and is accessible for seniors with varying abilities, health issues and disabilities.

While the grant is geared toward getting seniors active and involved in their community, Morrison added the club would also like to encourage youth to give lawn bowling a try.
