Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation (SMHF) and 98 the Beach have announced the final tallies for their third annual Light the Way Day in Saugeen Shores.

This year's fundraising goal was $50,000 but in an SMHF media release it was clear from the start that the people and businesses of Saugeen Shores were going to go above and beyond resulting in a record breaking $80,968.

“The Foundation and its Board Members were blown away by the final numbers of this year’s radiothon but we shouldn’t have been surprised," said SMHF Executive Director Tracy Murray. "The people of Saugeen Shores and the surrounding communities have been overwhelmingly supportive of the Foundation over the years. We are so grateful to live and work within this community where the people believe in and support the need for the best possible local healthcare so strongly.”

“The Foundation is so fortunate and grateful to have 98 the Beach partnering with us for this event," said Board Chair Jim Barbour. "Without the power of radio and the fun and energetic crew at 98 the Beach the radiothon wouldn’t be possible.”

The Foundation would like to thank the many volunteers who helped out during radiothon as well as Tim Hortons, Lord Elgin Fish and Chips and Queens Bar and Grill for bringing in food to keep the staff and volunteers energized through the 12 hour event.

A special thank you goes out every person and business who contributed funds as well as to the local Pee Wee Storm teams who participated by organizing their own fundraising road hockey initiative. The team’s efforts ended up bringing in many new donors to the Foundation with a total raised of $17,710.
