With more than 40 vendors, guest speakers, cooking demonstrations, a kids zone and much more, the first ever Grey Bruce VegFest is shaping up to be a festival for all things vegan.

In a Grey Bruce VegFest media release, the festival is set to take place July 13 at the Plex, 600 Tomlinson Drive in Port Elgin, and Doris Kun, organizer and owner of VegFest sponsor, the Pea Pod, said the event is all about celebrating a plant based and vegan lifestyle.

"I am trying to promote and inspire our community to choose a more compassionate and greener way of living," said Kun. "Bringing VegFest to Grey Bruce county will showcase local businesses and will give our community the opportunity to try delicious new plant based foods at one incredible event," she said.

"Everyone is welcome to visit VegFest," she added.

The festival runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. with an admission of $5. Children 12 and under are free.

Organizers are still looking for volunteers. Anyone interested is asked to email greybrucevegfest@outlook.com.

In addition, there is an ongoing art contest. Youth ages 2 to 12 they are encouraged to draw their favourite vegetables, fruits and/or animal. Drawings will displayed and judged at VegFest by those in attendance and can be dropped off at the Pea Pod, 671 Goderich Street in Port Elgin, by Friday, July 12.
