Bruce Power has announced a $100,000 matching pledge in support of the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation's (SMHF) Bring Tom To Town campaign.

Funds raised by cyclists, up to $100,000, for the August 21, 2022 Gran Fondo Lake Huron event will be matched by Bruce Power.

President and CEO Mike Rencheck said Bruce Power was proud to support the campaign to bring a CT scanner to Saugeen Shores. "This project is important to both the hospital and the community, and we encourage local organizations and community members to provide support where they can," said Rencheck.

Foundation Executive Director Tracy Murray said the support will not only inspire riders to fundraise for this year's event but also encourage people in the community to register to ride or donate to a cyclist.

Murray added that supporting a CT scanner at the Southampton Hospital will not only benefit the people and businesses of Saugeen Shores but all of Bruce County.

The Bring Tom to Town campaign launched in October and prior to Bruce Power's announcement sat at $2.4 million of its $3 million goal.

Gran Fondo Lake Huron, which sold out the last time it was live in 2019 with 1000 cyclists taking part and has has a 2022 fundraising goal of $250,000, boasts three routes to choose from, a catered barbecue lunch, and prizes to be won. "Gran Fondo Lake Huron offers something for riders of all skill levels and is a great family event to enjoy each summer," said a media release from SMHF.
