Renovations get underway at Port Elgin Harbour

HarbourRenovation560Port Elgin Harbour renovations commenced October 17 and are expected to continue through to March of 2017.

The Port Elgin Harbour is about to become safer and more efficient for its users thanks to an investment by the Department of Fisheries and Oceans. This major renovation project coordinated by the Government of Canada in partnership with the Town of Saugeen Shores got underway October 17.

From an October 18 media release, the federal project, which includes stabilizing and encapsulating the harbour wall from the southern pier to the end of the fueling area, is expected to last until the end of March 2017. During this time, the Town will also be relocating fuel pumps and pump out facilities as well as adding additional docks to the fueling area.

“This project is an important step in the life of our harbour,” said Greg Lancaster, Facilities Manager for the Town of Saugeen Shores. “It will ensure the integrity of the structure, while also providing a safe and reliable harbour for the future of boating in Saugeen Shores.”

An area of the promenade will be closed during this renovation to ensure the safety of the public and workers. There will be no access to the area or the benches identified in the image. Visit the Town of Saugeen Shores, Community Services Department on Facebook or Twitter for updates on the project as it continues through the winter.
