The force will be with the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation (SMHF) as it “lights the way” this holiday season. The Hospital Foundation knows its goal of raising $150,000 is lofty, but it’s what needs to be done, said Foundation Executive Director Sally Kidson.

The hospital needs priority equipment such as: a YAG laser, a Humphrey Field Analyzer, an ultrasound probe reprocessing unit, a histology processor; as well as some replacement flooring, a special microscope, software systems updates and patient beds.

Jedi Knights and a few Princess Leias “joined the light side” and Light the Way Honourary Chairman John Divinski in turning on the hospital lights at the Light the Way campaign kick-off party November 14.

The Chantry Singers sang seasonal tunes while lightsabers were waved with enthusiasm. Members of FaithLife Financial Chapter made the campaign’s first donation of $2,442 during the ceremony.

Divinski, also from 98 The Beach, announced that Thursday, December 15 will be Light the Way Day in Saugeen Shores. The radio station will be doing a radio-a-thon from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. to help the foundation reach its goal.

Divinski said he takes his role as honourary chairman seriously and that the foundation needs to raise money to stay ahead with technology.

“I need you to talk to as many people as possible about the Light the Way campaign every chance you get and why it’s so darn important,” Divinski said November 14.

“Tell them that a donation to Light the Way is like a Christmas gift to themselves, their family, their friends and their community, who one day may need the hospital like I did. I’m sure they'd like the best equipment in the hospital to go with the top notch care we’ve received for years, bbut it costs money.”

Divinski went on to say that the more people who know about the fundraising campaign, the more likely the foundation will reach its goal of $150,000.

“It’s the only way we can light the way,” said the chairman.

Information and donation forms can be found on SMHF website at smhfoundation.ca as well as its Facebook page. The foundation will also be mailing 3,500 information letters out to the public.
