The Chantry Singers are proud to be travelling to Ottawa to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Canadian confederation. From a May 24 media release, members will head out June 27 to take part in Unisong 2017, a musical festival in Ottawa bringing hundreds of choristers from across Canada together to perform in concerts across the region of the nation’s capital in honour of Canada's 150th celebrations.

The choir will be accompanied by Director Anne Little and Accompanist Christina Edwards.

“Chantry Singers first participated in Unisong in Ottawa in 2008,” said Little in a June 1 email to the Hub, adding that at that time they applied and were selected as the only choir to represent Ontario. “We were pretty proud of that,” she said.

This year they were invited back. “We must have behaved ourselves the last time. They have changed the format of the event, and we are one of four choirs from Ontario,” said Little. “To be in the nation’s capital for the celebration of Canada Day is very exciting, and will be even more this year as we celebrate Canada’s 150th,” she said.

While in Ottawa, the choir will rehearse en masse with the other choirs from across Canada and perform the Unisong Massed Choral Concert at the Shaw Centre with hopes of performing with the National Arts Centre Orchestra as well on July 1.

There will be additional performances leading up to July 1 with locations to be announced.

The May 24 media release said the choir has been busy rehearsing to prepare for their upcoming trip to Ottawa. The choir will be performing most of this music at their spring concert, Oh Canada, on June 3 at the Port Elgin United Church. “It is a huge honour to represent our province and our community at this celebration,” stated the release.
