The Saugeen Shores Adult Learning Centre in Port Elgin is once again looking for new and gently used outerwear of all sizes, adults and children, for their annual winter coat drive.

Items needed include coats, mittens, gloves, scarves, hats, and boots, said Program Coordinator Maria Bertrand with last year bringing nearly 190 coats. “We have a generous community,” said Bertrand.

Items can be dropped off at the Adult Learning Centre, located on the second floor of Maple Square Mall, 515 Goderich Street in Port Elgin on Mondays and Fridays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. and on Wednesdays between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. The centre is closed for an hour between 12 and 1 p.m.

This year, items can be picked up for free at the Port Elgin United Church, 840 Bruce Street, on Friday, October 11 between 9:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. Items can also be dropped off at the church prior to that date.

Bertrand said that the pick up location was changed this year because they wanted to make it wheelchair accessible, which the Adult Learning Centre is not.

Everyone is welcome at the coat drive said Bertrand. “It's for anybody. It's kind of a coat exchange."

For more information please contact the Adult Learning Centre at 519-389-2302.
