The Plex in Port Elgin is one of the municipal facilities closed beginning Saturday, March 14, due to COVID-19.

The Town of Saugeen Shores has made the decision to close its recreational facilities beginning Saturday, March 14. These facilities include The Plex and Rotary Hall, Centennial Pool, Southampton Coliseum, Southampton Town Hall auditorium and the Southampton Curling Club.

In a March 13 media relese, these cancellations include all March Break programming and rentals: March Break Camp, March Break swimming lessons, public skates and swims. For registered programs, staff will be contacting participants directly with further information.

Staff are closely monitoring the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) situation in Ontario. The Municipal office will remain open and all other municipal operations and services will continue as usual for the time being.

Staff will reassess the situation next week and will keep the public informed.

The Town will continue to monitor advice from local and provincial medical officers of health and encourages the public to practice good hygiene as a preventative measure.

“Following consultations earlier today with public health officials and our neighbouring municipalities, we have decided to take these precautionary measures,” said Mayor Luke Charbonneau.
