Public washrooms to reopen in stages in Saugeen Shores

covid 19 3

In the latest media release from the Town of Saugeen Shores, several announcements were made concerning the community's beaches and public washrooms. It was stated that continued beach use will depend on adherence to public health and provincial orders.

The Port Elgin Main Beach will open on Friday, June 12, including limited washroom access at the Beach House.

Other public washrooms reopening around Town include:

By June 12 - BMTS downtown washroom; 10th Concession; Southampton Town Hall; Millard Boulevard (by the Big Flag)

By June 19 - Gobles Grove; Chamber of Commerce public washroom; Gerry’s Fries; Water Rescue Station

Services at Town amenities will increase on a weekly basis as seasonal staff are gradually added. Instead of a full day at the beach, however, the public may wish to consider shorter visits to the beach, which will put less demand on washrooms and garbage disposal.

The public is reminded that beaches will remain open while physical distancing practices and other public health and provincial orders are adhered to.

“COVID-19 continues to be a real threat in our community and beyond,” said Mayor Luke Charbonneau. “Not following public health directives and provincial orders risks closure of our beaches.”
