Saugeen Shores Council appointed John Divinski as the new Southampton Ward Councillor Monday. He signed the Declaration of Office November 2.

“I welcome John to Town Council and I look forward to working with him,” said Mayor Luke Charbonneau in a November 3 media release from the Town. “He knows our community well through his history as a radio announcer and journalist," Charbonneau said, adding that he and his colleagues are confident Divinski's skills and background will make him a strong representative for the people of Southampton.

Divinski has been a full-time resident of Southampton since 2005 with a career in radio. He has acted as moderator for many all candidates meetings at local, provincial and federal elections and was the first Honourary Chair of the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation's Light the Way campaign.

“I have tried to work for the betterment of the community my entire life," said Divinski in the November 3 release. "I want to make a difference and be a part of the future of this Town." Divinski said that he was ready to get down to work and looks forward to giving back to a community that has given he and his wife so much.

Divinski was selected for the Southampton seat over nine other candidates, following the resignation of John Rich in September.
