The Chantry Island Cham-bettes' 2024 Sharecrow's initiative raised $10,000 and 8,000 pounds of food for local food banks.

The long established service club called on Saugeen Shores to get crafty and create scarecrow displays and dozens of homes, businesses and organizations heeded the call.

Volunteers gathered on November 1 at the Boat House in Southampton and tallied up the contributions, dividing everything equally between the Salvation Army Food Bank, Saugeen First Nation Food Bank, Living Hope Food Basket and Saint Vincent De Paul Society Food Bank.

"And just because the Sharecrows Food Drive is over for 2024, please remember to support your local food bank," read a social media post November 6. "Every time we shop, it's so easy to buy one more thing and leave it in a bin."
