Local gymnasts medal at All-Stars competition

Nine gymnasts from Swing, Spring and Flip Club represented Saugeen Shores this weekend in Brampton at the All-Stars competition.

From an April 2 Swing, Spring and Flip media release, Bella Hobson of Port Elgin ranked Silver on Floor in the Level 2 Age 8 category, and ranked Bronze on Beam and Bars. She had tight legs in her handstand on balance beam, and her floor routine impressed everyone. With athletes under 9 years of age, scores are not reported to comply with the Canadian Long-Term Athlete Development model from Gymnastics Canada.

Kyra Faulkner of Port Elgin competed in the Level 2 Age 9 category and scored 7.25 on Bars, 8.2 on Balance Beam, 8.55 on Vault and 8.85 on Floor, granting her fifth place in each event. And with an overall total of 32.85, she placed fifth overall.

Cali Drope of Saugeen Shores competed in the Level 2 Age 11 and 12 group. She scored sixth on Bars, scored 8.575 on Beam and 9.05 on Floor Exercise, placing her seventh in each. She placed seventh on Vault with a score of 9.05 and seventh overall with a total score of 33.475.

It was the first meet for Ava Rothmaier of Kincardine who competed Level 2 Age 10. She placed sixth on Bars, scored 8.575 on Floor to take fifth place, scored 8.925 on Beam and 9.025 on Vault, granting her two more fifths. Her overall total score of 33.375 ranked her sixth overall.

The Level 3 and up athletes are working towards qualifying for Provincial Championships in June in Belleville. Their best two scores from three qualifying meets will count in their rankings from athletes across Ontario.

Samara Quanz competed in the Level 3 Age 13 group. She performed amazing routines and stunned the crowd and judges. Her Vault and Bars scored 9.075 and 8.8 respectively, ranking her fourth. Her Floor Exercise was clean, and with a score of 9.3 she took a Bronze medal. Her Beam routine was even better, where she scored 9.00 for Silver. Her overall score of 36.175 awarded her the Silver overall.

Sadie Rahn of Paisley competed in the Level 3 Age 10 group. She placed eighth on Bars with a score of 7.0, was sixth on Vault with a score of 8.75, and fifth on Beam and Floor with scores of 8.9 in both events. Her overall score of 33.55 placed her in eighth overall.

Olivia McNabb of Port Elgin competed in the Level 3 Age 9 group. She placed ninth on Floor, took eighth on Beam and Bars, scoring 8.375 and 7.85 respectively, placed fourth on Vault with a score of 9.65. Her overall total score of 3.875 put her in eighth.

Sabra Cannon of Port Elgin competed in the Level 5 Age 10 group. She placed fifth on Floor with a score of 8.8 and fifth in Beam with 8.95. Her Bars were excellent, scoring 9.1 and awarding her fourth place. Her Vault was tight and clean, scoring 8.65 and granting her a Bronze medal. Her total of 35.5 placed her fourth overall.

Aliyah Petronski of Port Elgin competed in the Level 5 Age 11 group. She showed excellent form, and placed eighth on Beam with a score of 7.65. Her Bars scored 7.3 to give her seventh place, and her Vault took sixth with a score of 8.425. Her Floor routine was excellent, and her score of 8.875 placed her fifth. An overall score of 32.25 put her in seventh place.
