SDSS recognizes top athletes

The top athletes from Saugeen District Secondary School (SDSS) were recognized at the school’s Athletic Banquet, May 8, with four students being named Athlete of the Year.

Senior Athletes of the Year were: Hanna Lynch, who also won the Most Valuable Player (MVP) awards for Basketball and Rugby; and Steve Langendoen who received MVP for Football, Hockey and Rugby. Junior winners were: Emma Martin and Cam McEwen, who are both in 10th grade.

The school’s team MVP’s were as follows:
Badminton: Junior - Trevor Donaldson and Will Forsyth; Senior - Utsab Roychowdhury and Ben Schroeder
Basketball Girls: Junior - Riley Funston and Jayedyn Solomon; Senior - Hanna Lynch
Basketball Boys: Junior - Trevor Donaldson and William Forsyth; Senior - Kodey Vance and Thomas Forsyth
Cross Country: Sam Nuesselder
Curling Boys: Seamus Pinfield
Curling Girls: Christian McLean and Katrina Richards
Football: Steve Langendoen
Golf: Thomas Forsyth
Gymnastics: Vanessa Phillips and Rebecca Skomorowski

During the banquet students were awarded with certificates confirming “Athletic Letter” status. Athletes received received points for participating on school teams, with extra points given to students who were involved in championship performances.

Receiving Junior Letters (15 points) were: Savannah Brown, Aspen Chapman, Bryanna Cowan, Mallory Earnshaw, Teaghan Johnson, Tori Lammie, Emma Martin, Erica Parker, Vanessa Phillips, Kelly Roberston, Rebecca Skomorowski, Zainab Skiekh, Umar Azmi, Christian Chin, William Forsyth, Jacob Kloosterhof, Cam McEwen, Bryce Ribey, Jackson Weber, Nick Bamford, Jack Drury, Colton Heipel, Paul Leger,Cam Plante, Ben Schroeder, Connor Cassidy, Liam Flarity, Matt Horseman, Murry Marin, Tristan Rajendra and Tyler Stegner.

Senior Letter winners (30 points) were: Grace Alvarez, Hanna Lynch, Katrina Richards, Harrison Alvarez, Tyler Donaldson, Hayden Duplantis, Thomas Forsyth, Steve Langendoen, Eric Langeridge, Jesse Millette, Brendan Morano, Utsab Roychowdhury and Kodey Vance.
