A hot and sunny day brought people out to play at Mowbray Canadian Tire’s Jumpstart Day May 26.

Jumpstart is a Canadian Tire charity that raises funds to help families cover costs associated with children’s activities with all the money raised from Jumpstart Day in Port Elgin going to benefit the local community.

Funds raised from events like Jumpstart Day will also be matched by the Canadian Tire Corporation. In 2017 through the Jumpstart program, Mowbray's Canadian Tire gave out $30,000 which in turn helped 143 children in the area take part in sports and other activites, the top five being hockey, soccer, dance, gymnastics, and swimming.

The Saturday event that took place between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. in the parking lot at the Port Elgin store included a bicycle rodeo and a bicycle safety course put on with the help from the Town of Saugeen Shores and Saugeen Shores Police Services with bike tune-ups provided by Martin’s Bicycle Shop.

A by-donation barbecue also took place where volunteers and the Mowbray family served up hamburgers, hotdogs, and fried onions.

Two race cars were on site which some happy enthusiasts got to climb into and things got big when Dan Kerry brought his monster truck 'Train Wreck' to the Jumpstart event.
