The Saugeen Shores Winterhawks will kick off semi-final action this weekend as they travel to Clinton on Friday night for Game 1 against the Clinton Radars, who have won three consecutive Sr. “AA” championships.
After a five-game series win over the Minto 81’s, the Saugeen Shores Winterhawks enter the series looking to lean again on depth and a balanced attack to combat Clinton’s fire power.
Nine players scored at least four points in the series against Minto, lead by Bryan Kazarian and Trevor Smith, who scored six points each.
Clinton’s offensive strength is well documented, the Radars scored a league-leading 171 goals in the regular season, with Stephen Sanza, Max Campbell and Kurtis Bartliff finishing 1-2-3 in the league scoring race.
While Clinton won both meetings between the two teams, it was the January 12 game in Clinton where the Winterhawks served notice they would not back down from the Radars.
Even though the score came out 5-4 in favour of Clinton, the Winterhawks went toe-to-toe with the home side, outshooting Clinton, 41-21.
The series shifts to The Plex in Port Elgin for Game 2 on Saturday night with a 6 p.m. start.
Game 3 will be in Clinton on March 8, with Game 4 back in Port Elgin, on Saturday March 9 at 7 p.m.
