The results are in and the Lamont Sports Park has cleared its first hurdle in the Kraft Heinz Project Play competition.

The committee set a goal of 500 nominations and were excited to hear that more than 550 had been submitted online by Saugeen Shores and area residents. "Your Kraft Heinz Project Play Committee wishes to thank everyone for their tremendous support of the Lamont Sports Park project," said Mayor Luke Charbonneau in a September 23 media release.

Next, officials from TSN and Kraft Heinz will review nominations from all participating communities and determine which four from across Canada will move on to the next round. The top four will be announced by TSN and Kraft Heinz on Saturday, October 12.

“We have done our best and now it’s a wait and see," said Charbonneau.

The voting period for the final four begins on Friday, October 18 at noon and runs for 48 consecutive hours through to noon on Sunday, October 20. If Saugeen Shores makes it into the top four, Charbonneau said, "we will need our entire community to vote many times."

Saugeen Shores will also be inviting neighbouring municipalities to support the project on the voting weekend.

The winner of the Kraft Heinz Project Play competition will be awarded $250,000 for project development.
