Breakers shine at Fall Classic

Seven senior swimmers from the Port Elgin Breakers Swim Team participated in the 2019 Fall Classic Swim Meet hosted by the Orangeville Otters at the Markham Pan AM Complex, October 26 and 27. All told, there were six teams with approximately 325 swimmers competing.

In a Breakers Swim Team media release, the team finished in the Top 10 in 40 different events with all seven swimmers bringing home at least three Top 10 finishes as well as one or more Personal Best (PB) times.

In the 13 year old male group, Matthew Bull brought home a medal and a PB time for every event in which he swam. Matthew’s accomplishments included first in 50m Backstroke, as well as second in 100m Breaststroke, 100m Individual Medley, 200m Backstroke, 50m Freestyle, 200m Freestyle and 100m Freestyle. He topped it off with a third in the 100m Backstroke.

In the 15 year old male category, Brady Phillips finished with four PB times and placed third in 50m Backstroke, fourth in 800m Freestyle, fifth in the 50m Breaststroke, sixth in 200m Freestyle and seventh place finishes in 100m Breaststroke and 50m Freestyle.

In the 15 year old female category, Breakers saw our three senior swimmers bring home 12 top 10 finishes and 16 PB times.

Aurora Jacobi finished fifth in the 800m Freestyle, seventh in the 400m Freestyle, eighth place in the 100m Individual Medley and the 200m Freestyle.

Hannah Kent finished second in the 1500m Freestyle, seventh in the 50m Backstroke and ninth in the 200m Backstroke.

Michelle Wang finished first in 50m Butterfly, second in 200m Butterfly and received third place finishes in the 50m Backstroke, 100m Individual Medley and 50m Freestyle.

In the 16 and over male group, Jayson Horseman and Zachary McEwen brought home 12 top 10 finishes and 12 PB times.

Zachary McEwen finished first in 50m Butterfly, second in 800m Freestyle, fifth in 200m Backstroke, eighth in the 100m Backstroke, ninth in the 50m Freestyle and 100m Freestyle events, as well as 10th in the 200m Individual Medley.

Jayson Horseman finished first in 50m Breaststroke and 100m Breaststroke, second in the 100m Individual Medley and 200m Breaststroke, third in 400m Freestyle and a fourth place finish in the 50m Freestyle event.

The Breakers will be competing later this month at the McDonald’s Team Challenge, November 16 and 17 in Owen Sound.
