On June 24, Saugeen Shores Council gave a year-round ice pilot program the green light.

The three year term is set to begin in 2025 and is estimated to provide a net impact of $248,678 in revenue during that period. It is expected to assist in lowering the operating deficit of the Plex, which currently carries a five year annual average projection of $397,281.

Annual summary reports will be provided and a recommendation will be made through the 2028 Business Plan regarding the program continuing beyond 2027.

“Council remains committed to growing local arts, culture and recreation in a financially sustainable manner,” said Mayor Luke Charbonneau in a June 26 media release. “We know that this will ensure that Saugeen Shores continues to be the best place for residents to live, and tourists to visit.”
