With tax season well underway the Port Elgin Salvation Army offered pro bono tax services for eight people within the Saugeen Shores community. The free program, which began in Saugeen Shores in 2017, fills up fast and is done with help from volunteer Chris Tillcock who has over 30 years experience dealing with tax forms.

“We’re doing more than just giving out food,” said Salvation Army Community & Family Services Director, Major/Pastor Donna Kennedy. “Last month we offered a soup making class... and next month we’re doing a muffin making class.”

Kennedy said they were also considering a budgeting class at the Bricker Street location some time in the future, “a class that could be really helpful to stretch your dollar,” she said.

Tillcock, who also volunteered his time in 2017, has experience in corporate taxes and said he enjoys volunteering his time to assist people with their taxes. The deadline for the 2017 tax season is April 30.

The Bricker Street location will continue to offer special classes throughout the year. For more information contact the Salvation Amy at 519-389-3942.
