Over the past four weeks the Town of Saugeen Shores and the Saugeen Shores Police Service have partnered up to share weekly tips to encourage and educate all users on how to stay safe when enjoying our trails and roadways together. This is the final Friday of the series.

Tip #5: It’s all about respect!

A common thread connects all of the Bike Friendly Friday topics we shared: R.E.S.P.E.C.T.

It’s simple. When we show respect, understanding and compassion for ourselves and others on our trails and roadways, we all benefit. Whether you’re a pedestrian, cyclist or motorist we are one and the same and deserve to be able to use and enjoy our public spaces safely together.

As a bicycle-friendly community, Saugeen Shores is committed to educating all users about their responsibilities, encouraging people to choose active transportation and building an environment that supports safe and respectful use of our roadways and trails.

The safety topics we covered are recapped below.

Bicycle Bells – Use a bell. Use it well.
1 Metre Safe Passing Law – Give space. Keep it safe.
Share the Road – We’re on it together.
Share the Trail – Keep right. Pass left.

Thank you for reading along and turning these words into action! When we work together we all benefit. Let’s show mutual respect on our trails and roadways to help ensure that Saugeen Shores continues to be a great place for people to live, work and play!
